A Sub-Zero behind panel fronts with a Wolf or Thermador cooking suite is the standard pairing in these kitchens, and the calls follow the coastline as much as they follow the badge.
The older coastal properties — the streets above Dana Point Harbor, Capistrano Beach, and the blocks running back from the San Clemente pier — tend to hold a built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator, a gas range from Wolf or Viking, and often a wine cabinet added in a later remodel. What those kitchens have in common is not the brand but the air: every one of those appliances rejects its heat into salt-carrying marine air, so condensers, fan hubs, grille hardware, burner caps and igniter leads all age faster here than the same parts do a few miles inland.
Behind the hills the mix is different. The newer houses in Talega, Ladera Ranch, Las Flores and Coto de Caza are built around larger kitchens with more equipment in them: refrigerator and freezer columns rather than a single built-in, undercounter refrigeration and beverage centers set into island runs, an ice machine, a wine cabinet, and a cooking suite that is more often Thermador with induction and a steam oven. Salt is not the problem out there. Heat is, and so is clearance — a great deal of that equipment is boxed into cabinetry with almost no room for the air it needs to shed.

By appliance instead
The fridge side kept drifting warm every afternoon and came back fine by morning, so I had half convinced myself I was imagining it. He came out the same day, pulled the lower grille and showed me the fins crusted white with salt off the harbor. Cleaned, and it has held since.
Called on a Sunday night about water pooling under the built-in and someone actually picked up. Next morning he found the drain iced shut, cleared it properly, and put a level across the cabinet because it had tipped forward over the years. Ran the dispenser before he left.
The wine cabinet we put in during the remodel held its top zone and crept up on the bottom one all summer. Two other outfits had been out and both wanted to sell me a board. He took the reading down at bottle level and it was the fan in that zone.
